I'm writing this post as if it were my last. I might die....either from a spoiled state of starvation or because I'm not in my right mind. Fruits only on day one. Yesterday was Day Two and it was veggies only. Now, I must say, day two was far better for me than one. I can handle veggies FAR better than I can fruits.
The rules for this cleanse state that you need to have a baked potato for breakfast. Nothing added but a "pad" of butter. It filled me up, that's for sure, but I'm not sure if it's because of the potato or because I drank so much water to choke down the dryness of the potato. I found myself wishing for just a few dollops of ketchup to dip it in. That would have made it far better. But I can't complain...it was better than fruit.
For lunch we had corn on the cob. That's it. I think Paul had 5 or 6 ears, I had 2 or 3. I can't remember in my state of deliriousness just now. Part of me wants to watch The Castaway today because I think Tom Hanks and I could relate. Truth be told, I have imaginary friends anyway, despite the cleanse, soooo............
For dinner, we treated ourselves to something warm in our bellies. Asparagus, green beans, sautéed onions, zucchini and mushrooms. I'm not sure if oil is allowed, but it was for us. I highly recommend, for anyone who is wanting to try this or to try something new, to switch from using vegetable oil or even olive oil and change to safflower oil. The flavor it gives the vegetables is far better AND there have been recent studies done from Ohio State (endorsed by the great Dr. Oz) about it's benefits and how it may help bust belly fat. Google it and check it out (after you're done reading, of course). Even if it's just for taste, I have noticed a significant change in the flavor of food. You can buy it at your local super market most likely. I got ours at Super Saver. A little bit expensive, but a little goes a long way.
Later in the afternoon, Paul and I had a great idea to go to the First Friday ArtWalk downtown and we were going to go to one of our favorite restaurants, The Oven, to indulge in some delicious Indian food. Almost simultaneously, we both remembered this cleanse and got frustrated. We did end up going down to the ArtWalk, but we didn't eat good Indian food and we had to sit and watch the kids eat their icecream. Torture. So then we took them to Wendy's afterwards for a chicken sandwich. That never sounds good to me, but last night, it sounded like heaven. And it makes me realize how much I clean up the kids' leftovers when they eat.
The only thing keeping me going on this, other than my ever-motivated husband, is that I'm down 4-5 pounds. I realize most of it is water weight, but at least it's SOMETHING!
Today, Day 3, it's fruits and veggies combined. To me, I feel like once this day is over with, it'll be the home stretch and won't be so difficult. More on that tomorrow.....if I make it through today....
